Signs a short section of drain is damaged
A patch repair is aimed at a defect confined to one spot. Clues include a blockage that keeps forming at the same distance along the pipe, a small damp area or smell above one part of a drain run, or roots that keep returning at one joint.
The clearest sign is a camera survey showing a single crack, hole, open joint or root entry at one point, with the rest of the pipe in reasonable condition. Where several defects run along the pipe, full lining or another repair may be more suitable.
How patch lining works
The pipe around the defect is cleaned first, often by jetting, and any roots or deposits are cut back. A short sleeve soaked in lining resin is wrapped around an inflatable carrier, pushed along the drain and positioned at the defect using the CCTV camera.
The carrier is inflated to press the sleeve against the pipe wall and held there while the resin sets. It is then deflated and removed, leaving the patch in place over the defect. Patch repairs suit pipes that still hold their shape; collapsed or badly displaced sections usually need excavation.
What to expect on the visit
We check the chambers and access points, then run the camera to confirm the defect is still where the survey showed and measure its distance from the access point.
While the patch sets, you may be asked not to use fittings that drain into that run. Afterwards the camera is run again so you can see the patch in position, and water is run through to check flow. We will explain what was done and mention any other defects we noticed.

What is the difference between patch lining and full lining?
A patch covers one short damaged section, while full lining runs a liner along the whole pipe between access points. Patches suit a single localised defect. If a survey shows several defects or damage along much of the run, full lining or another repair is usually more appropriate.
Can more than one patch go in the same pipe?
Yes, separate patches can be fitted at different points if each defect is localised and the pipe between them is in reasonable condition. If patches would cover much of the run, we will talk you through whether full lining makes more sense.
Do I need a survey first?
