When drain lining may be an option
Lining is usually considered once a camera survey has shown cracks, holes, open joints or root entry along a drain run, while the pipe still keeps its basic shape.
It is often looked at where digging would be difficult or disruptive, such as under a driveway, patio, extension or mature planting. It is not usually suitable where a pipe has collapsed, joints are badly displaced, or the run has sharp changes in direction that a liner cannot follow.
How a drain is lined
The pipe is first cleaned, often with high-pressure jetting, and roots or hard deposits may be cut back with descaling or cutting tools. A camera check then confirms the pipe is ready and helps measure the length to be lined.
A flexible liner soaked in lining resin is fed into the drain from a chamber or access point and pressed against the inside of the old pipe. Once the resin has set, it forms a new pipe wall inside the existing drain. Side connections covered by the liner can then be reopened from inside the pipe where needed.
What happens on the day
We check access to the chambers at each end of the run and confirm the section to be lined. You may be asked not to run taps, flush toilets or use appliances that drain into that pipe while the work is in progress and the resin sets. Equipment usually sits close to the chamber, so clear space nearby helps.
After lining, the camera is run through the pipe so you can see the lined section, and water is run through to check flow. We will explain what was lined, point out anything that was not suitable for lining, and say whether any further work should be considered.

Questions about drain lining
Does lining make the pipe smaller?
Slightly. The liner sits inside the old pipe, so the internal diameter is reduced by the thickness of the liner. In most domestic drains the difference is small. We will mention if a run is too small or too irregular to line.
Will I need a survey before lining?

Can I use the toilet during lining?
