Water spilling over the edge of a gutter during rain is the clearest sign. Other clues include plants or moss growing along the gutter line, sections that sag between brackets, and drips landing on a doorstep or window sill.
Look at the walls and ground as well. Damp patches, green staining below a gutter or downpipe, and water pooling at the foot of a downpipe can all point to a blockage in the gutter, the outlet or the pipe itself.
How gutters and downpipes are cleared
